An Open Letter to JCPenney

The First Change.

I’m going to start saying JCPenney is one of my favorite stores to shop for clothing.
More than a year ago, the people who used to shop there on a regular basis, including myself, started to have a love-hate relationship with the store, because of big changes on pricing policies. This changes were made with the blessing of a new CEO: Ron Johnson.

The First change I did notice then was the cancellation of the 15% off you could get when completing a survey they invited you to fulfill every time you shop with them, the invitation code was in the shopping ticket and you had certain period of time to take advantage of the survey. When you complete it all the questions you automatically was given the 15% off coupon to print and shop in store.

The second change I noticed was that I didn’t got e-mails from JCPenney, like new merchandise and sale offers. The store was getting silent so the regular promotions stopped as well as the ready to print coupons we were used to get.

The third change was a big letter from the heads of the company announcing the changes in pricing policies and sales. No more .99 or .96 ending prices. Also the way clearance and regular prices will be identified, with stickers of different colors.

Finally I give up and started shopping there  again when they announced the changes in displays with the premise of having boutique like sections in the store which I liked a lot, but not the prices. Still I manage to buy there some times, but honestly with the increase on prices I went more often to Forever 21, Rue 21 and Charlotte Russe.

The NEW Change. Welcome Back Mike Ullman. Not really.

Hello! That was fast! This guy’s comeback it’s all about raising prices!

I went yesterday to my local store at IV Mall in Southern California, and guess what? The prices increased!
How can that be possible???
I was ready to buy a nice blouse for work that I really like. I was there last week so I remember the price of  the item, yesterday’s price was not the same! The prices increased 15% for like 80% of merchandise with regular price.
A little white sticker covered the original prices, but a lot of people noticed this and I saw people very disappointed. I’m glad other people notice the changes because I felt deceived, disappointed and confused.
So if you had that 20% off coupon they mailed to your house, you finally save: Nothing!
That day I was happy for going in there and buying a few items for my wardrobe, but I ended up buying only clearance items that I knew had the same price as the weekend before.

The changes for JCPenney stores have been confusing in terms of pricing.
The changes and the improvements on quality items and boutique like displays are great.

Changes had to be for the better and today I hope the actual CEO can improve the overall experience of shopping at JCP in store and on line and save the company.

Last but not least I want to say that took the time to write such a long blog because I care about the store, I wish they continue writing their history and also continue to provide us with quality items at great prices.
